Reston + Herndon

NEIGHBORHOOD

Reston

Reston, a community founded in 1964, spans some 15 square miles. It's an area that's mostly self-contained with green space throughout, along with various commercial centers. The community was started right after World War II with the goal of being the ideal suburban American community. It's achieved that with its beautiful homes, whether they're larger colonials, modern custom properties, or high-rise apartments with beautiful views. Home styles vary, and many larger, more affluent subdivisions exist here.

Reston is home to numerous shopping districts, including Reston Town Center. It's a larger area that's home to around 63,000 people. The Fairfax County Public School System serves this area, with South Lakes High School and Langston Hughes Middle School within its boundaries. It's a fantastic area with lots of green space, and it includes Lake Fairfax Park, Baron Cameron Park, and Water Mine Family Swimming Hole, plus the Hidden Creek Country Club. The center of the community is home to numerous hotels, restaurants, and shops, and the Reston National Golf Course is well-recognized as one of the best in the area.

Herndon

Herndon residents enjoy beautiful parks, green spaces, and numerous commercial areas. This community is home to around 23,000 people, many of whom live in subdivisions. The homes in Herndon range widely from larger bungalows and colonials to ramblers and apartments. Some townhomes sit on tree-lined streets with pocket parks throughout the area.

Herndon boasts good access to the heart of the city, which is why it's lined with several hotels and extended stay areas. This community is also home to numerous parks, including Haley M. Smith Park, Bready Park, and Trailside Park. The Herndon Centennial Golf Course and the Chandon Dog Park are also within the community's boundaries. The downtown area is quite walkable with several shops and restaurants. Even with all this, the smaller subdivisions make Herndon feel like a small town. It's a part of Fairfax County Public Schools, though a few private schools exist near the city.
